Final race - report from the trainer

Good morning,

Please note that you have until tomorrow to pay for any of your reserve pigeons for the summer race final, (cost to enter a pigeon is 300Euro or R5100) should you not pay for the reserve pigeons they will go up for sale on Friday and any 3rd party will then be able to purchase the pigeon and enter it into the main race under his/her own name, after this all rights to this pigeon will be shifted to the new owner and all prize money won on the final race will be for their purse!

If you unfortunately lost one of your main entries please make sure to notify me by Wednesday which pigeon will take its place for the final race if you do not notify me the pigeon with the lowest “S” number in your team will become the replacement.

Kindest regards and thank you very much for your continuous support over the years it has been a privileged to train your pigeons even through the difficult times as well as the good times!

We have made some very good friends along the way and I have been privileged to handle and train some of the best pigeons ever to have been entered in a one loft race!

Hoping to see some of you at the final

From the Carnival Lofts team.

Last date to notify me which pigeon/s is your main entry in

every team of 5 sent to the summer race:

Wednesday 18 January 2017

Good day

By now every entrant should have picked their main entered pigeon if you have not done so please make sure to notify me asap!

As per the rules of the summer series for 2017 for every team of 5 pigeons shipped 1 is entered and the others are reserves, if you have not indicated which pigeon is your main entry you will have the next few days to notify me via email as to which pigeon of each 5 you sent is your main entry! Should you not notify me by Wednesday next week the first pigeon/s on your entry sheet if you filled one in or the first pigeon captured on the olr software will be your main entry!! Ie if you sent 10 pigeons the first two pigeons on the olr software will be your 2 main entries the rest will be reserve pigeons, if you sent 5 the first pigeon captured on the olr software will be your main entry! This means the lowest “S” number of your pigeons will be the main entered pigeon/s if you did not indicate which pigeon is your main entry.

After hot spot 3 on Saturday 21 January 2017 (weather permitting) you will have until Tuesday 24 January 2017 to pay and enter any reserve pigeons you wish to enter for the final race, make sure to send me proof of payment with your name as well as your pigeons ring number via email so that I can mark it as paid!

On Thursday 26 January 2017 ALL unpaid pigeons will be made available for entry by any 3rd party, you will not have any further claim to the pigeon if you did not activate it by Tuesday 24 January 2017.

Hot Spot 2

Eventually after some rains and some more rains and yet some more rains we got an opportunity to race hot spot 2 on Sunday 8 January 2017, we are not complaining about the rains as we definitely need it here at the Vaal dam but it has given us a few run around when it comes to the training schedule the last few days. First of all you have to get up in the morning and see what the actual weather does on the day before you can decide to train to the pigeon or to keep them locked up, then if you do go out to train the pigeons you need to be very sure where you can actually stop to liberate them as you can easily get stuck in the mud but all worked out just fine for hot spot 2, the major thing is the temperatures are cooler than any summer race I have ever been involved in and this has made training a lot easier as the pigeons do not mind it being cooler at all!!

All the way down to Winburg on Saturday it was raining and there were doubt in my mind if we will be able to liberate on Sunday as earlier in the week the bank of rainclouds were predicted to stay till Monday but the last weather predictions on Saturday showed that we will be able to liberate in clear skies and only at about 60kms from the loft will the pigeons encounter the rain. Sunday morning early we were up and left the guesthouse to get to liberation site with the weather clear but some clouds towards the lofts, the wind at this stage was quite strong from East South East which means a wind on the right wing, temperatures were cool some would even say cold, the pigeons were liberated under the watchful eye of the local farmer who was kind to let us liberate on the little “koppie” on his farm. They made one circle around the vehicle and off they went. On the way back the wind would have pockets were it would blow stronger then subside again after another 30km’s and so it went all the way back, from about 7h30 the wind changed to a headwind and started blowing stronger and would just get stronger as the day carried on, the wild doves that crossed the highway would just lift to cross the wire fences then drop down to fly at ground level again as they struggled against the wind.

I got a message that the first kit of 21 pigeons arrived at just after 08h51, the first one to cross the finish line was a pigeon bred and entered by Joachim Goben from Germany this pigeon has flown the following positions on the training flight before the hot spot 31st, 77th, 27th and a 7th she also managed a 19th position so she dropped with the winning pigeons on Hot Spot 1 well done to her owner for winning the 2nd Hot spot for the 2017 summer race! In second position it was local fancier Egbert O’Kelly from Out of Africa Lofts who always does well at the one lofts all around the country, 3rd position Alfons Klaas, 4th Saville Penkin (Sherwood Lofts), 5th Blues Syndicate, 6th Guido Barth, 7th, 9th and 10th Com Seggelen Wolvers from The Netherlands and in 8th position last year’s winner Midlands Lofts so some serious names in the top 10, I must admit!!!

The pool results was also loaded on the website and please if you have not pooled yet do not hesitate to contact me if you need to know what to do and how to pool a pigeon, we will have a 67km training flight on Wednesday then back to Winburg on Saturday weather permitting and then we will have the 3rd Hot spot and the FCI final race from Glen on 21 January 2017 weather permitting off course!

Well done to all the various winners so far

Hot Spot Averages, and as you can see the first 20 pigeons are so close no one can call a winner at this stage!!!

Summer 2017 newsflash – 29 November 2016

It is 16h00 hours and only 36 degrees Celsius here at the lofts at this moment, yes you read correctly 36 degrees outside so why would you be outside in this sun one might ask, well if you are a feathered friend sent to compete in the Carnival Lofts summer challenge you might just still be on the road back from the training flight this morning and that is why you are still outside!

The early trainings went exceptionally well but as we know by now the summer series can be very unpredictable and we all know that every day out in the training baskets is a test for the team of pigeons, this am when I liberated it was already 25 degrees Celsius and not long after that the temperatures soared into the mid to upper 30’s. The weather profits have predicted temperatures of close to 40 degrees the next few days so one thing is for sure the next few days will be tough on the pigeons. We have had some good rains at least which means plenty of water on the road so the ones finding themselves on the way home can get some well-earned refreshments on the way home. We will be training from two spots the next week one being just short of Heilbron and the other about 15km’s on the other side of Heilbron to sharpen up the team before we will go to 90 km’s in about 10 days’ time so for now let us hope they manage to find the direction towards home easily every morning and that the losses column will not take much of a toll on the pigeons currently in training.

Remember the first hot spot is scheduled for 21 December 2016 from 130 km’s

Herman

17 November 2016

And so the season starts!

Summer 2017, first training results published. I think it is a bit of a joke to publish the results as half the kit arrive back and play around the lofts for another hour before coming down so maybe you do not want to be in the first few right now but time will tell. The losses have been ok this season and we can definitely see that the quarantine went much better than the last two years as the mortality in quarantine was less than 5 % this season. As per usual some fanciers have been unlucky and have lost a few of their entries already but then on the other side of the coin some fanciers have lost not one of their 5 or 10 pigeons sent. Good luck to all the fanciers the first money event is still one month away so we will work the team from quite a few short training flights this season but from 3 different directions in the next two weeks to try and get their homing ability the best we can before we go to the 100km mark in the training schedule.  And please note as per usual we still have a few pigeons that come and go so maybe one of your mia pigeons were not here when the electronic rings were fitted we will do a physical check once a week as we always do to make sure that all the electronic rings are working on every pigeon oh and that the ones we publish in the basketing list is actually in the training flight and not still trying to make its way back from a previous flight and then comes and win the training on the day even though it was never in the basket

Herman
